NON-SKID REPAIR

This is how to repair or replace non-skid surface…..

You will need:

• Bag of clean sand from hardware store (play sand)

• Aluminum can

• Masking tape

• DA or grinder with 40 to 60 grit paper or Pad

• Paint (acrylic enamel/primer to match)

We use ppg paint products so that is what I will be referring to but the basic process can be done with what ever paint/primer combination you wish. (As long as they work together)

1. Cut the top off of the aluminum can and poke several holes in bottom big enough for the sand to flow through. This will be used to apply the sand as evenly as possible.

2. Use a grinder or sander to take off old non-skid down to bare aluminum.

3. Wipe the area down with some kind of cleaner/degreaser such as Acetone or dx330.

4. Tape area to be painted off to prevent over spray.

5. Prime the area with what ever paint products you chose. We use an etching primer called DP40. Let Dry

6. Apply a good heavy coat of paint to the area. (immediately apply sand)

7. Use the can with the holes to apply sand like a salt shaker. Keep refilling can and applying sand until you have a good even coat on surface. (Don’t worry about putting too much.)

8. Let it sit for 5 minutes or so then use air to Blow off excess sand that has not stuck to wet paint.

9. Paint over sandy Area Again until desired look is reached

10. Let dry completely then pull tape.

***Small touch up areas can be done with spray can and sand using same process***
